Professor Jon Storm-Mathisen is 70

Jon Storm-Mathisen is a neuroscientist and professor at the Department of Anatomy, University of Oslo. Storm-Mathisen is co-founder and assistant director of the Centre for Molecular Biology and Neuroscience (CMBN). He is one of the most cited scientists in Norway, and was among the 14 researchers at Norwegian institutions who in 2010 were rated as highly cited in the ISI-index.  Storm-Mathisen received the Anders Jahre price for research in medicine in 2006 for his revolutionary research on neurotransmitters in the brain, where he showed that brain cells communicate by using the amino acid glutamate. He also received the University of Oslo research price in 2004. Storm-Mathisen was elected as a member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters in 1992 and has been heading the Kavlie prize committee since it was established in 2005. Storm-Mathisen became cand. med in 1965 and defended his Ph.D. in medicine in 1976, both at the University of Oslo.

Jon Storm-Mathisen er hjerneforsker og professor ved Avdeling for anatomi, Institutt for medisinske basalfag, ved Universitetet i Oslo. Storm-Mathisen var med på å grunnlegge og er nestleder ved Senter of molekylærbiologi og nevrovitenskap (CMBN). Han er en av Norges mest siterte forskere, og var i 2010 en av fjorten forskere ved norske institusjoner som er rangert som ”highly cited” i ISI-indeksen. Jubilanten mottok Anders Jahres medisinske pris i 2006 for sin banebrytende forskning på signalstoffer i hjernen. Han mottok også Universitetet i Oslo’s forskningspris i 2004. Storm-Mathisen er innvalgt medlem i Det Kongelige Norsk Videnskabers Selskap og Det Norske Videnskapsakademi og har ledet komiteen for utdeling av Kavliprisen siden den ble etablert i 2005.  Storm-Mathisen ble utdannet cand.med. ved Universitetet i Oslo i 1965 og forsvarte sin dr.med. samme sted i 1976.

Den 16. januar 2011 ble Jon 70 år. Vi gratulerer!!!
