Professor Maiken Nedergaard (University of Rochester) is a leading scientist in the field of neuroscience. Her research has a strong focus on the biology of astrocytes and she has made seminal discoveries regarding the roles of astrocytes in the pathophysiology of epilepsy. Many of her breakthroughs have been based on in vivo analysis, using multiphoton laser microscopy. Nedergaard is also known for her analyses of mechanisms that underlie the regulation of blood flow in brain.
