SymposiumMost mutagenic and carcinogenic agents induce covalent changes in the structure of the DNA and living organisms have evolved a large number of gene functions specifically designed to repair or tolerate such alterations without loss of viability or development of disease. Schizosaccharomyces pombe is a widely used eukaryotic model organism to study genome stability and the cell division cycle. A symposium on "Cellular responses to DNA damage in Schizosaccharomyces pombe" will take place in Oslo, October 1 - 4, 2007. Our aim is to bring together leading scientists from all over the world on DNA repair, tolerance to DNA damage, modulation of heterochromatin, cell cycle regulation and cell division in fission yeast.
