Svend Davanger currently works on vesicle and plasma membrane proteins in brain cells. He has extensive experience with quantitative immunogold EM and fluorescence confocal technologies, applied on brain sections and hippocampal cell cultures. He has contributed to the characterization and synaptic localization of trafficking and/or glutamate receptor interactive proteins, such as sec6/sec8, hrs-2, and ykt6. His lab has recently developed an immunocytochemically based method to quantify the release and depletion of glutamate from vesicular and cytoplasmic compartments of neurons and glial cells in culture. He is currently establishing a lab for single particle tracking in cultured cells.
